Techniques for creating an auction listing.
Copy and paste.
Copy and paste is a method of editing text and HTML documents.
Use the mouse to highlight text by holding down the left button and dragging the cursor over the required text. Release the left button, right click and in the drop down menu select copy.
The text has now been copied. Go to where the text is required left click to place the cursor,
right click and in the drop down menu select paste. The text has now been pasted.
The cut function will delete and copy any highlighted text, which can then be pasted.
The keyboard can also be used for copy and paste. First highlight the required text then use the keys, as follows;
The shift key can be used for highlighting text. Place the cursor at the start of the required text.
Hold down the shift key, left click at the end of the text to be copied, this highlights the selected text.
Similarly, the shift key can also be used with Home, End and arrows keys to select lines of text.
In addition there is the edit menu at the top left of most programs. This has more editing functions, for example undo.
File organisation.
In order to have a fast, efficient and smooth auction loading session it is
best to be organised.
Create a folder and name it LOT1. Next make a copy the HTML auction template to be used,
rename it LOT1 and save it in folder LOT1.
Create a new text document using for example Wordpad or notepad, name it LOT1 and save it in the auction folder.
This is used to keep a copy of the URL (address) of the photos.
Take photographs of the item and copy them into the auction folder. These can then be edited with the photo editor,
creating the main pictures plus any extra for the gallery photo. After editing the photos
upload them to the image hoster.
Copy the URL (address) links provided by the image hoster and paste them into the the text document.
Open the auction template with the HTML editor, write the title, description and any other information that is needed.
Copy and paste the photo URL links into the template and save the file. Provided that the PC is connected to the
internet the auction can be previewed and seen as it will appear. If required go back and edit the auction.
It should look something like this auction example.
Loading the auction.
You should now have a folder containing a completed auction template, a text document and some photos. Just as in this picture.
When ready to sell, go to ebay and start to list an item as normal. For the item description select the HTML option, open the auction template with the HTML editor, copy the HTML code and paste it into the description box. Click the preview button to view the results. Note; In some previews the background colour or image will go across the whole of the ebay page background, this is normal and no action need be taken.
Continue with loading the auction and if required complete the gallery and listings pictures section using the URL (addresses) saved in the text document. It is possible to revise an auction listing. Make adjustments to the auction template using the HTML editor and use this to replace the existing HTML description.
